On Heralds this week is another Nigerian ……
Abimbola Rosemary Odukoya
(aka Pastor Bimbo Odukoya)
She was born on the 12th of September 1960 and she was from Ogun state in the western part of Nigeria. She was a preacher and televangelist who won over 60 national and international awards before her death for her contributions to nation building, the development of her country, Nigeria, the West Africa sub region, and for leadership as a woman of high moral standards globally. She was and she is still a role model to many. Pastor Bimbo studied History and Archeology at the university of Ibadan and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts. She started her life carrier at the National Theatre Lagos but later resigned and settled for full time ministry. Pastor Bimbo was married to the founding pastor of the Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya and their marriage was blessed with three children Tolu Odukoya, Jimmy Odukoya and Tobi Odukoya. She was a writer, popular televangelist, highly sought conference speaker, youth mentor and principled marriage counsellor.
Before her death she was the associate senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church and the President of Discovery for Women. She was also the host of Single and Married, a television program broadcast locally and internationally. The program was designed to deal with practical issues people face in marriages and relationships generally guided with biblical principles. She was a well-known conference speaker. Her ministry imparted so many people youths in particular globally that even up till now that she has being long gone her messages are still blessing lives. Pastor Bimbo lost her life at age 45 on the 11th of December 2005 due to injuries sustained after the aircraft she boarded from Abuja to Port Harcourt on the 10th of December crashed during landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport. Pastor Bimbo’s was indeed and is still a blessing to many relationships.
I could have written about other people but I felt there are key things to learn from the short life of late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya.
1. Its not about how long you live on earth although we all pray for long life, but its rather about how well you spend your life either long or short on earth. Yes you may be feeling you are old or you are thinking you are still young but can I ask you, has your life being of any importance to God, humanity and the society?
2. A productive life is a seed for legacy. Live life with the consciousness that its not forever but temporary no matter how long you get to live. And if you’ve got that consciousness then purposeful living wouldn’t need to be sang to you before you engage in it.
