On Heralds this week is……
Fashion is one of the most intriguing topics in today’s world and excellence even in the line of fashion is a much desired height by so many in that world. On this edition of Heralds we shall be celebrating and learning from someone who to a great extent is doing well in that world;Tara Fela-Durotoye. She is a Nigerian Lawyer whose excellence has being brought to prominence through her make up artistry. Tara was born on the 6th of March 1977 to a polygamous family in Lagos State Nigeria. Her father Mr John sagay actually divorced her Mum in the eight month of Tara’s birth hence Tara was brought up by her step mother Mrs Modupe Sagay. That would have being enough trauma generator for some individuals but that wasn’t The case with Tara. She “journeyed” through the landder of education progressively from primary school to secondary school and to Lagos State university where she acquired her LLB. Unlike her other “learned colleagues” as the law personnels call themselves Tara decided to do something more personal and innovative than practising Law.
She chose to enhance what she started during her undergraduate days “House of Tara International” a business which started small and grew to become an internationally recognized organization and the creator of the first makeup school ever in Nigeria. House of Tara has not only won so many awards and recognitions as an organisation but has also provided a platform through which Tara as an Entrepreneur has won so many awards too. Amongst the numerous awards are the The Africa SMME Award, the Entrepreneur of the Year award 2007 and the Creative Business Award of the Year, Success Digest 2008.In 2013, she was listed as one of 20 Young Power Women in Africa by Forbes with the World Economic Forum also naming her as a Young Global Leader. Tara is the creator of the Tara Orekelewa Beauty range, Inspired Perfume and the H.I.P Beauty range.
Tara is married to the popular business strategist Mr Fela Durotoye and they are blessed with three children(all boys).
I believe you may have somehow heard of Tara and her exploits but I’ll like you to learn the following lessons from her life amongst so many others.
1. First dare to be the first if you are sure its worth it. For Tara it was a makeup school, what’s yours?
2. Secondly, aside from your certificate, learn a skill or trade and don’t hesitate to practice it when necessary.
3. Finally enhance yourself, package your skill well and you will soon be a star
