Tara Fela-Durotoye
Fashion is one of the most intriguing topics in today’s world and excellence even in the line of fashion is a much desired height by so many in that world. On this edition of Heralds we shall be celebrating and learning from someone who to a great extent is doing well in that world;Tara Fela-Durotoye. She is a Nigerian Lawyer whose excellence has being brought to prominence through her make up artistry. Tara was born on the 6th of March 1977 to a polygamous family in Lagos State Nigeria. Her father Mr John sagay actually divorced her Mum in the eight month of Tara’s birth hence Tara was brought up by her step mother Mrs Modupe Sagay. That would have being enough trauma generator for some individuals but that wasn’t The case with Tara. She “journeyed” through the landder of education progressively from primary school to secondary school and to Lagos State university where she acquired her LLB. Unlike her other “learned colleagues” as the law personnels call themselves Tara decided to do something more personal and innovative than practising Law.

She chose to enhance what she started during her undergraduate days “House of Tara International” a business which started small and grew to become an internationally recognized organization and the creator of the first makeup school ever in Nigeria. House of Tara has not only won so many awards and recognitions as an organisation but has also provided a platform through which Tara as an Entrepreneur has won so many awards too. Amongst the numerous awards are the The Africa SMME Award, the Entrepreneur of the Year award 2007 and the Creative Business Award of the Year, Success Digest 2008.In 2013, she was listed as one of 20 Young Power Women in Africa by Forbes with the World Economic Forum also naming her as a Young Global Leader. Tara is the creator of the Tara Orekelewa Beauty range, Inspired Perfume and the H.I.P Beauty range.

Tara is married to the popular business strategist Mr Fela Durotoye and they are blessed with three children(all boys).

Moral Lessons

I believe you may have somehow heard of Tara and her exploits but I’ll like you to learn the following lessons from her life amongst so many others.

1. First dare to be the first if you are sure its worth it. For Tara it was a makeup school, what’s yours?

2. Secondly, aside from your certificate, learn a skill or trade and don’t hesitate to practice it when necessary.

3. Finally enhance yourself, package your skill well and you will soon be a star

On herald this week is …
Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa

The name Benson Idahosa is one of the most popular names in the history of Pentecostalism in Nigeria as a matter of fact he is the first pentecostal archbishop of Nigeria. Papa as he was respectfully called wasn’t born with a silver spoon and wasn’t even born a Christian. He was born on the 11th of September 1938 to a Non Christian family in Benin-city, Edo state Nigeria. Being a sickly child he was rejected by his own father and was even at a time abandoned at a rubbish heap by his own mother thinking he was soon to die.Although later rescued by his mother, the young Idahosa didn’t have the opportunity of being educated until the age of fourteen. Papa Idahosa was gloriously lead to christ by pastor Okpo whose congregation Idahosa grew from to start his own ministry “The Church of God Mission International” and the headquarters is currently in Benin-city in Edo state Nigeria. He started his church in a store but by the year 1971 he had established his churches all over Nigeria and Ghana. Through his life, so many were lead to Christ and even non christians were beneficiaries of his blessings. He was once said to have blessed the famous Dangote during the early days of his business but that’s an entirely different inspiring story of its own.It was recorded that God used him to raise people from the dead and he was popularly known for his power and prosperity preaching. He was the founding President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN). Papa had so many contacts in and outside Nigeria especially with great men of God like T.L Osborn, Billy Graham, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Hagin, Reinhard Bonkee but to mention a few. Among his protégés are Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor among so many other great contemporary Nigerian ministers.

Baba as he was also called, established other platforms through which people are still being blessed today, like the Benson Idahosa University, The Faith Mediplex and All nations for Christ Bible institute. Baba ended his journey on earth at the age of 59 on the 12th of march 1998.

The ministry is currently precised over by his beloved wife Archbishop Margrate Idahosa and they are doing fine. As at the time of his death he had four children amongst which is Bishop F.E.B Idahosa. Papa forever remains a blessing.

According to T. L. Osborn, Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa is the greatest African ambassador of the apostolic Christian faith to the world.

Moral Lessons

1. Every child is a blessing in disguise so value them like you value the Gold ore

2.Its not in man to direct his ways so stop despising the days of little beginning start somewhere even if it’s a shop like Papa did.

3.Don’t just pray for long life, pray for a life of lasting impart and legacy.

On Heralds today is …

The wright Brothers

I wouldn’t like to bore us with much of history and dates this week because I am just so exited with these people that could believe in what 99% of the world would have called impossible and i really want you to read the moral lessons in this particular post carefully. Wilbur and Orville Wright Popularly known as the wright brothers are american inventors who were born in 1867 and 1871 respectively to the family of Bishop Milton Wright. While growing up the boys developed interest in mechanical activities and general science research. In 1889 they started their own newspaper, “The Westside News paper” that was doing quite well. By 1892 they later started their own bycicle shop where they fixed and sold their own personal bicycle designs. Being ardent followers of the aviation research of Otto Lilienthal a German Aviator who died in a glider crash the wright brothers resolved to make what so many would have called an impossibility a reality. They traveled to Kitty Hawk in North Carolina and started researching, working and experimenting their works on aviation. By 1903, December 17th precisely they succeeded in flying the first powered, sustained and controlled airplane flight in the world for 59 seconds at 852 feet. Just as Jesus said the prophet has no honour in his own home, the brothers discovery was not well appreciated by the Americans so they traveled to France(actually Wilbur went first before Orville joined later in 1909). In France there, they improved and started marketing their aircrafts even selling to the united States where they later returned to.Wilbur died in 1912 on may 30th while his younger brother and partner Orville died in 1948, August 19. What a life right?

Moral lessons

I personally see this two as legends who have refined the world’s mentality on possibility and I will like us to learn the following from their life.

1. It doesn’t have to be generally accepted to become a reality. So many people have given up their God given great visions just because of either personal doubts or sentiments from people, the wright brothers were discouraged by so many including their own father but they believed their vision and worked from fantasy to reality

2. As important as a certificate may be its not the ultimate criterion for greatness. Non of the wright brothers graduated from college, but history can not forget the part they played in the world of aviation. Stop giving excuses and give the world what God has put in you for the world.

3. Finally i will like you to know that you can be better than you are today, break your own records by doing those things you did good in much better ways. Don’t sit down, keep growing.

Mary Robinson

Who is she? She is an Irish lawyer, politician and diplomat who once served as the seventh and first female President of Ireland from 1990 to 1997 she also served as a United Nations High Commissioner for Human rights from 1997 to 2002. Mary Robinson was born as Mary Therese Winifred Bourke in Ballina, County Mayo, in 1944. Mary’s parents were both medical doctors. She was a very intelligent woman who did excellently even in academics as a young woman. Mary attended mount Anville secondary school in Dublin and proceeded to study law at Trinity college also in Dublin. From there she went to Harvard Law school. At a very early actually in Mary’s twenties she was called to the inner Bar as a Senior counsel. She was later appointed as a Reid Professor of Law in her alma mata Trinity college also know as university of Dublin. In 1970 Mary married her husband Nicholas Robinson and they were blessed with three children.

Mary Robinson’s political career began when she was elected into the Dublin city council in 1979,she served there till 1983. She later became a senator representing the Dublin constituency in the Irish upper house. In 1990 she was elected as the seventh and first female President of Ireland. She did so well in office that even her opponent during the presidential election Brian Lenihan himself praised her saying that she was a better president than he ever could have been. Mary Robinson brought to the presidency legal knowledge, deep intellect, and political experience. She reached out to the Irish diaspora and also built a better reputation for the irish more especially that she was the first serving Irish president to visit the United Kingdom and meet Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. She later resigned after seven years in office (July 1997) to take up the position of United Nations high commissioner for human rights in September 1997. She served with the united nations until 2002. She is a member of the elders a group that consists of a group of world leaders brought together to contribute their wisdom, independent leadership and integrity to tackle some of the world’s toughest problems. She is the twenty fourth and first female chancellor of Trinity college (university of Dublin). Mary Robinson has won so many awards and international recognitions and she is a success in her own way.

Moral Lessons.

Mary Robinson is not best human being on earth as she has her own fault and some controversial perspective but she is someone we can learn from. Basically we should learn the following from Mrs Robinson.

1. Impact oriented leadership. If you must lead, live a legacy of impact and not just a record of occupying a position. You research deeper into Mary Robinson life and you may not agree with some things she fault for but one sure thing was that her impart in the life of her followers was appreciated especially as a President.

2. The reward of effective leadership is more responsibility. If you must grow then you must work at being effective even in your current assignment. No reward for failure and lack of standards.

On Heralds this week is….

Jefferry Bezos

Hello…, guess you have heard of online shopping somehow either from a friend or a colleague? yea probably you should also have heard of, that’s great! Today we will be getting to know the brain box behind Amazon; who he was and who he has become. Jeffrey Bezos was born in 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bezos’s mother Jacklyn Alex Furman was a teenager at the time of his birth. As a matter of fact her marriage to Jeff’s Dad only lasted for a short time and by the time Jeff was four his mother married her second husband Miguel Bezos a Cuban who immigrated to USA. He legally adopted Jeff and changed his surname from Jorgensen to Bezos. Jeff attended River oaks elementary school from his fourth to sixth grade. His interest in scientific and technological skill started right from his childhood days, his family later moved to Miami Florida where Jeff had his high school education from the Miami palmetto high school. While in high school it was so glaring that Jeff was a genius awaiting manifestation as he won the silver night award in the Student Science Training Program organized at the University of Florida. He later later got into the university of Princeton where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science in 1986. After school, Bezos worked on wall street for a company known as Fitel, he also worked at Bankers trust and he worked at D.E. Shaw & Co. By 1994 Jeff took a step that changed so many things in the world today; starting Bezos actually left his well paying Job to start what has made him the second richest man on earth today in a garage based on his foresight for the increasing need of the internet. Being a leader who does not joke with business details he has skillfully grown through the ladder with of success with powerful vision. It has taken over twenty years to get this far and that’s a show of an uncommon patience and resilience.

Aside from Amazon, Jeff owns 3.3 million shares of Google stock which he bought in 1998, he also has investments in other companies that are doing well.

He is the founder of Blue Origin which started in 2000 but became public in 2006. Its a human spaceflight startup company, built out of Jeff’s fascination with space travel and visionary interest in developing “space hotels, amusement parks, colonies and small cities for 2 million or 3 million people orbiting the Earth. They are expected to begin carrying “test passengers” in 2017 and initiate commercial flights in 2018. As at of June 2017 Bezos was reported to be worth US$85.4 billion. He is married to MacKenzie and they have four children.

Moral lessons

I believe you will agree with me that there are so many lessons to learn from Jeff Bezos but I will just pick out two that I feel every personality that desires to be great must cultivate.

1. Bezos is where and who he is today fundamentally because he is a man of vision. He knew what he wanted and he did what was necessary to get there. What are you living for? what is driving you? You don’t become great by wishing to be great, you become great by fulfilling your vision.

2. Patience and consistency are scarce virtues that you can’t do without if you must succeed in the business world. Jeff started amazon in 1994; that’s not two years ago. You will not succeed well if you have not understood the concept of patience and consistency. Rome there say wasn’t built in a day so stop expecting harvest when you should be weeding. I guess you got that!
